Chris Godwin

We are happy to introduce Attorney Chris Godwin at Shabani & Associates. Chris has been an attorney in Alabama since 2004 and working at Shabani & Associates since December of 2017. Prior to that he was a property and casualty insurance adjuster for fifteen years. He has also worked as an independent catastrophe adjuster (IA) handling hurricane, windstorm and federal flood claims. He has worked property insurance claims in Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Louisiana, and Mississippi. He has served as an appraiser and umpire in disputed insurance property claims. He was also a Litigation Specialist handling litigated or lawsuit cases coordinating defense of those cases with various legal counsels in Alabama, Louisiana and Mississippi.

Chris attended Birmingham Southern College in Birmingham, Alabama. He obtained his bachelor’s degree in Business Administration with a concentration in Finance in 1989. He attended the Birmingham School of Law in Birmingham, Alabama where he obtained his Juris Doctorate Degree in 2003. He has an Associates in Claims (AIC) Certification from the Insurance Institute of America.

As an attorney Chris handles personal injury cases arising from auto accidents, worker’s compensation cases for work related injuries, and premises liability injuries from falls and other circumstances. He handles divorce and custody matters, and criminal cases in state and municipal courts throughout Alabama. He served as retained counsel for the Department of Human Resources (DHR) in Marshall County, Alabama. He has handles cases in most Alabama counties. He is admitted in the United States District Court – Northern District of Alabama.

Chris enjoys outdoor activities such as hiking, camping, canoeing and kayaking. He is a Veteran of the United States Navy Reserve where he served as a Hospital Corpsman with the United States Marine Corp. He is a Veteran having served in Operation desert Storm/ Desert Shield in the 90’s.  He was an Eagle Scout in the Boy Scouts of America. He volunteers with the Alabama Volunteer lawyers Program, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Jefferson County, Alabama. He also was a ESOL (English Speakers of Other Languages) instructor for Catholic Social Services and a volunteer tutor with the Birmingham Adult Literacy program.
